Today while outside, we saw something orange crawling on a paint bucket. Knowing that my oldest son loves anything to do with critters, we looked into it. It was the wierdest colored caterpillar I'd ever seen. It looked like it had eyes on it. Well, I put it in a jar, and waited 'til he got home. When we looked at it again, it had already begun to spin it's crystalis. We googles it, and discovered it is a spicebrush swallowtail. I can't get a picture of the one we have, but I found a picture of it online. It is a beautiful bug. Here is what the site we found it on says about it.
"This is a Spicebrush Swallowtail. They feed on spicebrush, sweet bay, sassafrass and other trees. It becomes a beautiful black butterfly with green markings."
